It aims at analysing the most applied strategies to diagnose the language abilities and gaps. It is designed to get insights about NLS students’ reading abilities and difficulties. Such an analysis can explain the extent to which ESP students apply reading strategies while reading specialised texts. The design of the current study is threefold. The first chapter deals with theoretical aspects related to ESP, reading, and reading strategies. The second chapter contextualise the research into its context. It explains the methodology and the research procedures used. Data are collected through teachers’ interview and students’ questionnaire. Findings and data analysis are presented in chapter three. The results are described and analysed qualitatively and quantitatively. NLS students apply reading strategies to solve the reading deficiencies. They rely mostly on content schema knowledge and translation in comparison with linguistic schema abilities. The use of reading strategies is determined specially by reading purposes and reading difficulties.

Therefore, the foundation of all ESP is related to the simple question of why the learner needs to learn a foreign language. Through the present work the candidate tries to shed the light on a very crucial issue which exists at the level of the Department of Management at Ammar Thelidji University. The absence of an agreed syllabus makes teaching and learning rather ambiguous; for these reasons the candidate wants to suggest a syllabus targeted for Master students. Two questionnaires were administered, one addressed to language teachers who have taught at the Management department and the other one to the Master students, they have helped to identify the situation that prevail in teaching of the English at the department, mainly emphasizing the absence of predetermined objectives. This research work attempts to show that the application of some strategies of predetermined objectives would enhance better the students' achievements in learning English for specific purposes.

| | Mots-clés : | Business Discourse Business-Metaphors Business-MA Students | | Résumé : | Recently, myriad empirical evidence in the domains of specialised languages has focused on teaching vocabulary to both native and non-native speakers of English and on corpus-based analysis of specialised discourses. Business vocabulary instruction has been carried out following different methods. However, only a few empirical studies have been carried out to apply metaphor-based lessons in EFL. This research work sets to test empirically the theoretical grounds on which cognitive linguistics-inspired metaphor teaching is based; using congruent quantitative assessment of the subjects’ performances in the experimental group and the control group in a sequence of studies. Metaphor awareness hypothesis has been tested to show its effects on learners’ achievements in acquiring, integrating and recalling specialised vocabulary. The groups who participated in the study were first year MA Business students at Laghouat University. The variables were, further, controlled throughout the study to arrive at accurate conclusions about the introduced material. The findings of the study confirm that metaphors are part and parcel of business discourse and establish, therefore, the relevance of implementing metaphor-based instruction in business classes. It also provides linguistic evidence in support of the CMT claim that subjects’ awareness of metaphorical expressions increases their potential for vocabulary acquisition. This additional channel for vocabulary teaching may be considered as essential to a better understanding of business discourse.
