Titre : | Plant ecology and conservation | Type de document : | texte imprimé | Auteurs : | Andrew Lack, Auteur | Editeur : | CRC Press | Année de publication : | 2022 | Importance : | 316 p. | Format : | 27 cm. | ISBN/ISSN/EAN : | 978-0-8153-4460-5 | Langues : | Anglais | Mots-clés : | Plant ecology Écologie végétale Plantes Conservation | Résumé : | Plant Ecology & Conservation is an introduction to the world of plant ecology. It includes the main areas of current research including ideas about plant populations, nutrition and plant community ecology and has a particular emphasis on the interactions of plants with animals, fungi and microorganisms whose important is being increasingly demonstrated. With the world’s environmental problems having such a high profile, the book focusses on the human impact on the world’s plant species. Conservation of the terrestrial world starts with plants as they form the basis of all ecosystems on land. We can only understand how best to conserve the world’s biodiversity with an understanding of the central role of plant ecology. This theme runs throughout with numerous examples of the disruption of ecosystems by human activity emphasising the connection between plant ecology and conservation. |

Titre : | Day's veterinary immunology : principles and practice | Type de document : | texte imprimé | Auteurs : | Brian Catchpole, Auteur ; Harm HogenEsch, Auteur | Mention d'édition : | 3th Ed | Editeur : | CRC Press | Année de publication : | 2023 | Importance : | 403 p. | Présentation : | ill. en coul. | Format : | 26 cm. | ISBN/ISSN/EAN : | 978-1-03-231716-8 | Note générale : | Index 397p. | Langues : | Anglais | Mots-clés : | Médecine vétérinaire Animaux Immunologie | Résumé : | Michael Day's Veterinary Immunology: Principles and Practice is the adopted text in numerous veterinary schools throughout the world. Updated and revised by Brian Catchpole and Harm HogenEsch with advances in knowledge since 2014, this third edition reflects the rapid developments in the field internationally, while preserving the strengths of Day's original writing. It adds numerous case studies demonstrating the clinical context across companion and farm animals. The textbook presents information on commonly used diagnostic test procedures and includes learning objectives at the start and key points at the end of each chapter, standard symbols in diagrams throughout the text to provide continuity, clinical examples and clinicopathological figures throughout, and a glossary of terms and list of commonly used abbreviations. Short animations are viewable via the Support Materials tab on the Routledge webpage, adding a new element of practical application. Exploring the immunological principles of both large and small animals, the book emphasizes immunological principles while applying them to disease processes and to clinical practice. It provides a practical textbook for veterinary students and a handy reference for practitioners. |

Titre : | The role of agriculture in climate change mitigation | Type de document : | texte imprimé | Auteurs : | Lucjan Pawlowski, Auteur ; Zygmunt Litwińczuk, Auteur ; Guomo Zhou, Auteur | Editeur : | CRC Press | Année de publication : | 2020 | Importance : | 136 p. | Présentation : | Illustrations | Format : | 24 cm. | ISBN/ISSN/EAN : | 978-0-367-55500-9 | Note générale : | Refe. Index 136 p. | Langues : | Anglais | Mots-clés : | Agriculture Climate | Résumé : | According to IPCC reports, one of the greatest threats to the Earth ecosystems is climate change caused by the anthropogenic emissions of greenhouse gases, mostly carbon dioxide, mainly from the combustion of fossil fuels, cement production and land-use change which leads to an excessive temperature rise. Agriculture and forestry are responsible for quiet big emissions of greenhouse gases: CO2, CH4 and N2O, and have significant potential to reduce these emissions mainly through enhancement of CO2 absorption by terrestrial ecosystems.
To evaluate the impact of agriculture on climate change, ruminant farming should be also taken into account. These animals emit considerable amounts of methane which has strong greenhouse effects. Methane emissions may be reduced by using appropriate feed for ruminants. Decreasing the meat consumption of these animals can also make an important contribution to reducing methane emissions.
The methods for reducing greenhouse gas emissions through appropriate management of terrestrial ecosystems and animal husbandry are widely discussed in The Role of Agriculture in Climate Change Mitigation. The book will be of interest to academics, professionals and policy makers in environmental sciences. |
