It introduces the surprising variety of genres used by students today, from traditional essays and lab reports to more exploratory genres such as narratives and reflective pieces. Each chapter in the book considers a 'family' of genres, each of which is linked to a social function. Comparisons are made between disciplines and between different stages of study, from first year undergraduate to Masters level. Nethods include multidimensional analysis, the identification of generic moves, and more detailed investigation of lexical items. |
