Moreover, learners should work on developing and improving their competencies during their learning a second or foreign language. For this purpose, different strategies and methods have been adopted in order to develop student’s competences especially linguistic and communicative competences. Among those strategies using short stories as an authentic material in English classesis effective mothed that is used by foreign learners. Therefore, the current study aims at investigating the role of short stories in enhancing students’ linguistic and communicative proficiency. The aim of this dissertation is to achieve the importance and the impact of the use of short stories in the field of education, especially in learning English language. Thus, we hypothesize that illustrated short stories is a good material that can enhance students’ linguistic and communicative competences. To confirm this hypothesis, we use a descriptive study infrared from the results obtained from a pre and post-tests.The main objectives of this work are investigating the relationships between the two variables and raising the awareness of the importance of the use of short stories as an effective and authentic material in enhancing students’ competences. The tools used to reach those objectives are a set of exercises. The results of both tests i, e. the pre-test and post-test it has proved that short stories have great impact and it is a good material that teachers may use in enhancing linguistic and communicative proficiency. Moreover, it confirmed that there is a great relationship between students’ competences developement and the use of short stories. Therefor, students should focus much more on the reading side especially short stories in enriching their learning process. | note de thèses : | Master Degree in civilization and Literature |
